My name is Bharat. I am a kinesiology major and enjoy playing sports, weight lifting and discovering foreign methods of exercise. I also love music; apart from singing with Anokha, I play the guitar and drums on my free time.
Vishney Ambalavanar
Music Director
Vishney is a senior Marketing and English major, with a French Minor. She has trained in Carnatic music as well as Western vocal and piano. She has been playing harmonium since she was eleven years old, and is also a Bharatanatyam dancer.
Mihir Patel
Assistant Music Director
Mihir is a class of 2014 aerospace engineering major who started learning music at a very young age. He has been taking classical Indian music lessons since the age of 12, and he also knows how to play the harmonium. He enjoys playing tennis and ping pong, reading Harry Potter, and rooting for the Redskins. He is excited and optimistic about joining Anokha because he knows he will get so much out of it!
Shabaab Kamal
Shabaab, a Japanese major, is in the class of 2012! He's the oldest of five and LOVES to take care of his baby siblings . He listens to all kinds of music, from hip-hop (KANYE), to country (Shania Twain), to alternative (Neutral Milk Hotel), and even to video game music! In his spare time, Shabaab reads, gives tours on campus, plays video games and bums around on Youtube looking for something to make him laugh.
Shruti Ramaswamy
Hi, I'm Shruti. I am a junior at UMD and a Computer Engineering major. I absolutely love singing! Anokha is a family of amazing people and I am so happy to be a part of this family during my time at Maryland. I paint, dance and bake (or at least I try to) when I have some spare time. I enjoy Rock, pop ,rap, some country and classical music :)
Jennifer Chen
Jen spent 2 years in Mechanical Engineering before switching over to Elementary Education. She is a senior and will be a super senior next year! Before joining the Anokha family, she spent 5 years of her life playing the flute, 4 years in chorus, and 2 years playing the piano. Most of the music she loves listening and singing along to is Chinese and English pop music. Aside from music, she is aproud traditional Chinese folk dancer and is addicted volleyball. She looks forward to a great upcoming year with Anokha!
Esha Murty
Hi! I'm Esha and I'm a sophomore Materials Engineering major. My only musical experience before Anokha was shower-singing. I love to dance and I'm a proud member of UMD's Indian classical dance team, Moksha. I listen to hip-hop/rap, electronic/trance, pop, play the drums, and I can't stand in one place without breaking out. Anokha is a group of truly talented, and really fun people and I am so excited to spend the next few years with them! When I'm not singing or dancing, I love to eat, sleep, be around people I like, learn the lyrics to rap songs, and read Harry Potter ☮ ♥ :)
